Thousands of Americans make a “House Call” to Protest Democrat’s Health Care Bill

Democrats’ Plan to Help ‘Uninsurables’ Requires 6-Month Wait

You’re afraid your cancer is back, and a health insurance company just turned you down.

Under the health care bills in Congress, you could apply for coverage through a new high-risk pool that President Barack Obama promises would immediately start serving patients with pre-existing medical problems.

Wait a second. Read the fine print. You may have to be uninsured for six months to qualify.

AARP to Back House Health Bill, Sources Say

In a coup for House Democrats, AARP will endorse sweeping health care overhaul legislation headed for a history-making floor vote, officials told The Associated Press on Wednesday.

Health Care Reform Assumes Millions Would Pay Fine Rather Than Get Coverage

The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimated in its study last week that the House health care bill would bring in $167 billion over 10 years in penalties from those who don’t get coverage.

Joe Wilson Proposes Forcing Congress Onto Government Health Insurance Plan

Republican Rep. Joe Wilson proposed an amendment Wednesday that would force all members of Congress to receive health insurance coverage through the government-run plan proposed in the House’s reform bill.

Gordon opposed to health care bill

Congressman Bart Gordon said Wednesday he cannot support a House bill on health care reform, primarily because of the cost of funding a government option.

“I am concerned about a mandated government-run public option, and I do not like this bill’s financial impact on the state of Tennessee,” said Gordon, D-Murfreesboro, in a prepared statement in response to questions by The Daily News Journal. “The Congressional Budget Office has also indicated that the House bill will not reduce the federal government’s spending on health care over the long term — something I believe is essential.”

‘House Call’ Today; CBO Says GOP Health Care Plan Reduces Costs

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) and the Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) last night released a preliminary analysis (pdf) of the Republican alternative health care bill offered in the form of an amendment. The amendment would eliminate Pelosicare bill in its entirety and become the replacement bill.

The CBO and JCT found that the Republican alternative would lower premiums by up to 10 percent and reduce the deficit by $68 billion over 10 years without tax increases. The letter confirmed what Republican have been saying all along: their alternatives offer common sense, free market solutions which are always cheaper than leviathan government programs.

Letter from Former Surgeon General Dr. C. Everett Koop to Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Majority Leader Harry Reid

Former Surgeon General Dr. C. Everett Koop has written a letter to Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Majority Leader Harry Reid expressing “deep personal concerns about the direction of the health care reform bills.”

“More specifically,” says the former Surgeon General, “I am troubled about the possibility of federal dollars being used to pay for elective abortions and Americans being forced to subsidize them.”

Pelosi Breaks Pledge to Put Final Health Care Bill Online for 72 Hours Before Vote

On September 24, Speaker Nancy Pelosi told THE WEEKLY STANDARD that she was “absolutely” committed to putting the text of the final House bill online for 72 hours before the House votes:

TWS: Madam Speaker, do you support the measure to put the final House bill online for 72 hours before it’s voted on at the very end?

PELOSI: Absolutely. Without question.

But tonight, when asked if Speaker Pelosi will leave the bill online for 72 hours after we see what’s in the rule, Pelosi spokesman Brendan Daly replied in an email: “No; [the] pledge was to have manager’s amendment online for 72 hours, and we will do that.”

Apparently Pelosi’s agreement to leave the “final” bill online “at the very end” of the process wasn’t such a straightforward pledge.
