Like you, I think of myself as a Small-L Libertarian. What this means, by my reading, is that I believe in the Founding Principles -- American Foundationalism -- and particularly the philosophy of Thomas Jefferson.

One of my mist educational experiences was to read the letters of Jefferson & Adams. If only we had some men of vision and character today! In fact we do, but we are not recognized much in Washington because, taken as a whole, Washington is about taking our power, not helping us.

We can look at the situation in two ways: with despair or as people with a vision for new opportunity. As for me, I will seek the opportunity to take back power, on our terms, not theirs. In some sense, the system really is rigged - ACORN , incumbency hurdles. etc.) but this should not be taken to mean we have no recourse. We do. We must work around the system, not in it.

What recourse do we have? We can establish rock-solid proposals for reform that works, based on time-tested principles. But doesn't that still require Washington's approval? Not necessarily! The people are well connected as never before -- Twitter, Facebook, etc. We can create our own channels too.

What if we were to hold a National Referendum, electronically - a la phone voting on American Idol - but with tight security? Our referendum could morph into a regular voting system, and block the power of ACORN and similar thugs.

There is much more to discuss on these alternative solutions but not on the Internet. Look forwad to talking by phone soon!

Doug,
You made some very good points. There is no one stepping up to lead the growing number of conservatives who are trying to save the America they know and love. There is evidence, according to the polls, however, that even some democrats are getting disgusted and becoming more conservative. I think Gov. Mike Huckabee has taken a very vocal stand against all the abuse out of Washington. I hope he can gain more support.

Texas Realist,
You are so correct. Years ago when I was in school, what is going on today with the media, was called "yellow journalism". This was the lowest form of reporting and no true journalist would stoop to that level.

When you mention our propensity to blindly trust someone who is self-annointed, it reminds me of a very distinct difference between days of yore and today in that area. In the past, to one extent or another, we’ve been able to rely on journalistic ethics and professionalism to help inform of us of the true character and nature of a politician. Certainly, the absolute truth has always been at risk, but in the last decade or so, journalistic integrity has become the funniest oxymoron this side of Government Worker!
